To allow you to enter symbolic math expressions in your question responses, you are notified that the system is downloading and installing required math controls when you first log into an assignment that requires these elements. Installation is automatic, although you may have to restart your browser upon completion. (This varies with the browser and operating system.)
When the system loads, it examines the assignment to determine if it contains mathematical expressions. If the assignment contains math, the system checks your computer to see if you have the required math package already installed. If not, the following dialog box opens as the download and installation of the math tools for viewing and editing.
If you are not able to install the math package initially, you can still proceed to your assignment, but you will likely encounter Java window notices inside symbol toolbars when the symbolic math editor is used in questions. While these notices are intrusive, they do not affect your ability to use the equation editor or math viewer, and have no impact on the correctness of your responses to questions.
Note: You can download and install the math package at any time while you work in the system, even during an assignment. It is strongly recommended that you install the package in your first session. If you disregard this advice and decide to install the math package in the middle of an assignment, you must restart your computer to complete installation. While you do this, the system saves your work on the assignment, but you must log in again to access it.
