To edit a formula, use the left, right, up, and down arrow keys to navigate the template. The red cursor moves through your formula and a box surrounds the portion of the formula that is affected by what you enter. The following figures show navigation through a formula.
To edit the exponent, you move the cursor to the right as in pictures (1)-(3).
Pressing the down arrow puts you on the bottom of the fraction, as in picture (4).
Using the right arrow key repeatedly puts you all the way to the right, allowing you to add another term to the equation, as in the last picture (5).

Use the mouse or the arrow keys to move the cursor.
The left and right arrows move the cursor between characters in a template slot. When you get to the end of a slot, the cursor tries to automatically jump to the next reasonable spot.
The up and down arrows move the cursor vertically in templates where that is appropriate.
Characters are automatically grouped together as you enter them. When the cursor is on a group, an underline appears beneath the whole group. Use the space bar to separate characters you do not want grouped together.
You can use keyboard shortcuts for entering expressions. See Keyboard Shortcut Keys.
Use the mouse to highlight the text you wish to cut. Then use the Cut, Copy and Paste buttons on the toolbar. The Undo button is also useful.
Selection adheres to the nested structure of your templates. In other words, you cannot select part of one template and a part of another.
